The eighth edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup will take place in 2022. Australia will host the game from October 16 through November 13, 2022. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was getting ready to move the tournament from 2020 to 2021. Yet, the COVID-19 epidemic forced them to postpone the event from 2020 to 2021.
The T20 World Cup will now occur in the UAE and Oman in 2021 instead of India, as originally planned. In August 2020, officials said Australia would host the rescheduled tournament in 2022.
2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Guide & Highlights
Bit of a Background
In April 2018, the ICC said this event would replace the ICC Champions Trophy. That tournament was supposed to happen in 2021. The International Cricket Council (ICC) gave full international status to Twenty20 matches. This applies to matches between its member teams. This change took effect on January 1, 2019.
The ICC reported in October 2019 that the T20 World Cup Qualifier, which grants entry to the T20 World Cup, was in jeopardy. Four teams from the qualifiers and twelve teams from the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup will move on to the T20 World Cup.
The ICC certified the entire information about tournament qualification on January 23, 2020. In May 2020, the ICC told the BCCI that it might take away India's hosting rights. This came after the BCCI couldn't get a tax exemption from the Indian government for the event.
In July 2020, Earl Eddings, Cricket Australia’s chairman, looked back at the last tournament due to COVID-19. He said Australia might host the event in October 2021. He also mentioned that India could hold it a year later, in 2022.
The ICC noted that Australia or India would host the events. They were set for 2020 and 2021, respectively.
