Pakistan delivered a statement performance in Rawalpindi on Sunday night. The hosts crushed Sri Lanka by 82 runs in the second T20I to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Maaz Sadaqat's explosive 96 off 51 balls and captain Sahibzada Farhan's fluent 73 powered Pakistan to 215/3, their highest T20 total at home.
Mohammad Imran then dismantled Sri Lanka's chase with 3/11 as the visitors limped to 133/7.
How Pakistan Built Their Highest Home T20 Total?
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field. That decision backfired quickly.
Fakhar Zaman and Farhan added 55 runs for the opening wicket before Theekshana removed Fakhar for 22. That brought Sadaqat to the crease. What followed changed the game completely.

Sadaqat and Farhan combined for an 88-run partnership off just 49 balls. The scoring rate never dropped. Farhan smashed five sixes and four fours in his 44-ball innings. He fell in the 15th over, caught by Dasun Shanaka.
Sadaqat kept going. He added another rapid 72-run stand with Hasan Nawaz, who remained unbeaten on 19 off just nine balls. Pakistan plundered 70 runs in the final five overs alone.
Sadaqat finished on 96, agonizingly short of a maiden T20I century. He fell on the final delivery of the innings. His knock included six fours and seven sixes.
The total of 215/3 surpassed Pakistan's previous best at home of 208/3 against West Indies in Karachi five years ago.
Sri Lanka's Fielding Woes Cost Them Dearly
You cannot drop three catches against a batting lineup this aggressive. Sri Lanka learned that lesson the hard way.
Farhan was dropped on 2 by Sineth Jayawardene. He was also put down on 11. Sadaqat got a life on 44 when Nuwan Thushara couldn't hold a return catch.
Each reprieve proved costly. Farhan's 73 and Sadaqat's 96 came directly from those missed chances. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis acknowledged the problem after the match.
"We have done well in terms of fielding in the last few tournaments but unfortunately we have not been up to the mark and that's why we have struggled," Mendis said.
The fielding collapse wasn't just about catches. The ground fielding lacked urgency. The bowlers lost discipline. Nuwan Thushara was the only Sri Lankan bowler to keep his economy under 10 runs per over.
Mohammad Imran's Spell Ended the Chase Before It Began
Chasing 216 was always going to be difficult. Mohammad Imran made it impossible.
The medium pacer, playing only his second T20I, produced spans of 3/11 in four overs. He dismissed Sineth Jayawardena, Kusal Mendis, and Sahan Arachchige in quick succession.

Sri Lanka slumped to 49/4 inside eight overs. The required run rate climbed beyond control. The game was effectively over before the halfway mark.
Salman Mirza struck early too. He had Lahiru Udara caught behind for 5 in the first over. That set the tone.
Khawaja Nafay kept brilliantly behind the stumps. He took two sharp catches off Imran's bowling.
Who Stepped Up for Sri Lanka?
Not many. That's the honest answer.
Maheesh Theekshana top-scored with an unbeaten 32 off 26 balls. Chamindu Wickramasinghe made 29 off 24. Kamindu Mendis contributed 23.
But the top order failed completely. Kusal Mendis managed just 9. Dasun Shanaka scored 9. Sahan Arachchige bagged a duck.
Only Theekshana and Wickramasinghe offered any resistance. Their 50-run partnership for the seventh wicket came too late to matter.
Sri Lanka's batting performance raised serious questions. Their captain admitted as much.
"Batters need to take responsibility, including me," Kusal Mendis said. "It was a batting pitch, and we needed to score 200 runs at least".
What This Win Means for Pakistan?
This series win carries real weight. It's Pakistan's first T20I series victory over Sri Lanka in nine years.
More importantly, it shows Pakistan's revamped T20 approach is working. Captain Farhan spoke about the shift after the match.
"We have been a different T20I side in 2026 as our six-hitting ratio has improved and our batters are scoring at more than 150," Farhan said. "If we continue this way we will end up scoring more than 200 every time".
The team's aggression is paying off. They scored 187 in the first T20I. They posted 215 in the second. The intent is clear.
Sadaqat's emergence gives Pakistan another middle-order weapon. The 21-year-old now has back-to-back fifties in this series. His strike rate of 188.23 in the second match was the difference between a good total and a match-winning one.
What's Next for Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka have now lost three successive away T20I series. They fell 2-1 in the West Indies. England swept them 3-0. Pakistan has now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead.
The problems run deeper than one bad match. The batting lacks stability. The fielding has regressed. The bowling lacks penetration when the ball isn't swinging.
Kusal Mendis has to find answers quickly. The third T20I offers a chance to salvage some pride. But the series is already gone.
The Third T20I: What to Watch?
The final match takes place on Tuesday, October 13 at the same venue in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan will chase a clean sweep. They have momentum, confidence, and a settled combination. Farhan confirmed the team will keep the same aggressive approach.

"We will play with the same intensity with which we have played these two matches," he said.
Sri Lanka will play for pride. Changes are possible. The batting order might shuffle. The bowling attack might get fresh legs.
For neutral fans, the question is simple. Can Sri Lanka find any fight? Or will Pakistan complete the rout?
